Tideswell Fell Race is an annual race held during the village’s Wakes Week at the end of June.  The race has become a firm favourite in the fell racing calendar and attracts a strong field every year. In spite of the now customary heavy rain and treacherous muddy conditions on the steep inclines and descents, 100 runners competed in the 2013 race, matching 2011’s record number of entrants. As usual they found the effort well rewarded with a gruelling 4.5 mile course set among some of the finest Peak District scenery. The race was won by Lloyd Taggart (Dark Peak) in 26:36 and there were 100 finishers.

The relay is run over a 3.5 mile course around Damflask reservoir, starting and finishing in Low Bradfield. The mes relay is over 4 legs. Hallamshire Harriers won the men's competition in a time of 73:54. There were 45 teams in the mens race. Striders didn't enter a womens team this year but Jenny Rich ran for one of the mens teams!

Three Striders entered the annual Three Peaks Race, one of the classic fell races.  Snow and sleet the evening before gradually cleared to give a fine if cold day, although we were treated to a snow shower on Pen y Ghent.  Two Striders finished, Matthew Zawadaski having failed to meet the pretty unforgiving cut off time at Ribblehead.  The 5 mile descent from Ingleborough was purgatory!  A brilliant race, won by Joe Symonds (Salomon International Team) in 2:54:39 and Jasmin Paris (Carnethy Hill RC) in 3:33:04.  672 finishers.

On a fine day in London, seven Striders completed this year’s marathon. The stand out performance again came from David Palmer, who not only finished 62nd overall and 6th V40 runner, but who also broke John Kerr’s longstanding V40 marathon club record. He no doubt now has John’s overall club record in his sights. Congratulations also to Mary Picksley who continued to raise the bar by finishing 6th female V60 and setting yet another club record for her age category. Up at the elite end, an absorbing race saw the lead change hands several times in the last few kilometres, before finally being won by Tsegaye Kebede (Ethiopia) in 2:06:04. First woman was Priscah Jeptoo (Kenya) in 2:20:15. There were 34,274 finishers.

After the Lodge Moor race was moved to be the first fixture, a new venue had to be found a short notice. The course at Penistone, mainly along the Trans-Pennine Trail had the potential to be quick. Not quite as quick as it was, however. With the entire field making a wrong turn on the roads near the start, the route ended up around 4.2 miles long instead of the planned 5. Needless to say time will not count towards club records! The race was won by John Heneghan (Sheffield RC) in 22:21. First lady was Laura Gibson (Totley) in 26:12. There were 280 finishers including 24 Striders. This race was a counter in the Road Race Championships.

Due to heavy snow in late March, the venue for the first fixture had to be changed from Oxspring to Lodge Moor. Despite the snow drifts lining the route, the weather was ideal for racing. Several long steep climbs combined with some equally demanding descents made for a punishing course. The race was won by John Heneghan (Sheffield RC) in 27:31. First lady was Claire Thompson (Sheffield RC) in 31:46. There were 303 finishers including 33 Striders. The race was a counter in the Road Race Championships.
